Interior design and colors. Some rules when choosing colors in the interior and how this affects optically the room

Anyone who has had to deal with interior design and colors knows that this is a difficult task. There are some rules that we will explain in this article.

Is there anyone besides our interior designer who wants to make their home look like a little cozy hug?

This article on interior design and colors will offer you some useful lessons on layering colors and how they affect your interior.

We’ve talked about this before but the more open your view of the world is, the more important it is to treat the space around you in cold, monotonous tones. The challenge, to break down and start looking through the eyes of the Scandinavian, will put you on a higher level in the eyes of your friends and guests.

Interior design and colors in the Bulgarian reality

There is an unwritten rule: “Colorful is for the southern, poor people, monotonous is for the northern, highly educated Scandinavians” this is so and there the opposite is undeniable.

Whether it is interior design in Sofia or the country – we Bulgarians inhabit the small spaces bequeathed by communism which even more requires cool colors, because they distance and make the spaces larger visually.

Interior design and colors – optical illusions

In interior design colors are everywhere. Using light wood on the floor combined with white or light gray walls will make the space incredibly cozy. In addition, you must keep in mind that everything in this life has two halves – function and vision. The secret is in the balance between the two.

In this article we are talking mainly about the vision, where space is considered in the composition of many elements.

We look at the composition in its order and balance because there are many colors in people’s lives and if we ignore them we will lose the good vision and it will always look messy.

The best interior designers in Sofia and the country recommend using more neutral colors in large volumes, which are harder to change. We can afford more intense colors in works of art or in small accessories such as everyone’s favorite pillows on the couch.

Avoid unnecessary contrasts! Contrasts must be handled very carefully in any interior design.

Do not zone the floor of your interior with colors!

It is best to use the same flooring throughout the apartment. If you have chosen parquet you can use tiles only in wet rooms and terraces. Let the rest be just this parquet. If you are bored, you can always add a rug to bring comfort.

The light tones of the wood are very suitable for small apartments, because they optically increase the space, but you can also choose a darker parquet. The color of the floor is not so crucial the important thing is to be as unified as possible and to avoid zoning with different floors.

Optically it also helps a lot to avoid moldings, when you still need to change the flooring and there is a solution. Use cork or have the parquet worker make the transition strip from the parquet material itself. He will oppose but you should insist! If only the workers made decisions in our work – there would be no single drop of style and beauty in any interior design.

How does our interior designer choose the colors?

Our interior designer does not like to use too many smooth walls with latex but in some rooms and interiors this is the most profitable option and is necessary.

Then comes the time to choose the right shade and our advice to you is to choose the color of the latex last. First choose the colors of other things (parquet, sofa upholstery, curtains, etc.). When you choose the colors of all these elements, only then the with samples from all the elements choose latex. This is the right approach otherwise you will be confused and it will be unimaginative.

Interior design is a creative profession but as in any work there are rules that are good to follow.

Where to go with the colors in interior design?

It is different for walls and ceilings than for floors. Color is really very important here. Be very careful with the colors of the ceiling. If you do not have any special idea, such as parquet on part of the ceiling or other design solution it is best to leave it white. This will make the room look taller and will not be covered.

In general you have the freedom to choose the color of the walls. As we have already said, it is best to collect samples of everything included in the interior and then resort to the color of the paint.

Choose light tones, use more white or gray tones. Listen to us! Put a multi-colored work of art that will bring intense color to your interior design.

The lighting factor in our interior design and colors

There is another trick. Use cool colors for the interior but warm for the lighting! Be very careful when choosing light bulbs!

With energy-saving light bulbs or diode strips, you have the opportunity to choose different degrees of heat.

For example, 2700k is warm light and 6000k is cold.

Never mix the lights in one room because it will become a pot of grapes! When you start with warm light, finish all luminaires with warm light. They should shine the same but that’s the subject of another article.

Chinese interior design and colors

In the work on any interior design you will understand that not everything is latex and parquet. There is furniture, countertops, appliances and all kinds of gadgets. They all have their own color. Everything must be combined correctly. One element missing and everything goes to hell.

The biggest problem is the small home gadgets that you buy for home use.

The bad thing is that in order to attract attention and to convince you to buy them the manufacturers produces them in very bright, definite colors. To prove it to you – go to the bathroom and see the propped mop on the wall and you will be convinced. Avoid buying things for home that have a “nasty color”, just think twice in the store when you buy them! What if you gave 300 BGN / m2 for tiles in the bathroom when there is a propped up blue mob? Understand it, it will never stay tidy that way! Again, saturated colors should be in the works of art in your home, not in furniture, walls or the small things.

The color of life – interior design and colors

Each occupant in a given interior design brings with him a great deal of color. Such as clothes, accessories and other items of personal necessity. This burdens the interior and if you have pre-loaded it with strong colors then it starts to look messy and kitschy.

Unfortunately, we can not do without small stuff, but at least save their color presence. Anyone can do that.
